Michaela’s September Favourites

Every month I find myself obsessing over different things than the last, and September was no exception. From my new favourite beauty finds and wellness routines to what I’ve been watching and listening to - I am sharing everything that I was raving about during September - so let’s dive in!

  1. GLOEI BEAUTY SKYLIGHTER BLUSH

I recently received a couple of Gloei Beauty products and they’re now my new favourite thing. I don’t know who came up with this blush formula but I would like to meet them and personally thank them for creating the creamiest, dreamiest blush I have ever used. I got the skylighter in the shade ‘Cosmo Skies’ and it gives you the perfect natural sun kissed look that everyone’s going for. This product can also be used as a lip tint!

2. HOT LEMON WATER

One thing I’ve been doing to feel healthy is drinking hot lemon water, which I’m sure you’re familiar with. I don’t know about you, but as soon as I take a sip of hot lemon water, I immediately feel cleansed. Hot lemon water is proven to aid digestion, improve skin and is a great source of vitamin C. I try to have this at least once a day, I know I should probably have it first thing in the morning, but I can’t sacrifice my morning Nespresso - maybe that’s something I’ll work on in October. I even sometimes add a slice of lemon into my green tea before bed. I can’t get enough of it.

3. MONSTERS: THE LYLE AND ERIK MENENDEZ STORY

This case has been my Roman empire ever since I watched a documentary about it a few years ago, so when Netflix released Ryan Murphy’s biographical crime drama series, I was ready to binge. Now, I have lots of thoughts about this show that I could write a whole other article on, but I’ll keep it brief. I thought the acting was outstanding, and there could not have been a better cast - they did a great job of portraying the depth and emotions of the real people. I was captivated the whole time watching this show, and felt an array of emotions throughout the episodes. It did enrage me quite a bit to be honest - from the actual story and what their parents did to the dishonest portrayal of some characters and the real events that occurred. Needless to say it was a good watch and I can’t wait to see the real documentary coming to Netflix in October.

4. ICED MATCHA LATTE - FROM VIDA E CAFFE

If you have not yet tried Vida’s Iced matcha latte, run to your nearest Vida E Caffe and try it - just as soon as you’ve finished reading this blog! I was never a matcha girlie until I tasted this one. It’s creamy, it’s refreshing and not too sweet. I had first tasted the strawberry iced matcha which was surprisingly delicious, but it was a bit too sweet for me - so I definitely prefer the plain matcha to the strawberry one but both are super tasty, and I highly recommend.

5. THE OBSTACLE IS THE WAY by RYAN HOLIDAY

I have always been a fan of self help books, and Ryan Holiday never misses. As soon as I started reading this book, I was hooked and it was telling me everything I needed to hear. In this book, Ryan Holiday gives you tangible takeaways on how to turn obstacles into opportunities, remaining positive and confident in yourself no matter the situation. This book completely changed my mindset about everything - about my health, my career, my relationships and everything else in between. Ryan’s Holidays writing about the Stoic way of life always resonates and inspires me, and his style of writing is very direct and to the point - he tells you what you need to hear! I highly recommend any of his books to anyone who wants to level up in their life.

6. SOURDOUGH BAGELS - FROM COL TEMPO

If you live in Durban, you probably understand how hard it is to find authentic bagels that don’t taste like a bread roll, well look no further because I’m about to put you on to the BEST. BAGELS. EVER. I have been having half a Sourdough bagel every day for breakfast and I am obsessed with them. They’re the perfect amount of crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside. I love to have them with just a bit of butter - chef’s kiss. You can buy these bagels from Col Tempo Deli at 2 8th Avenue, Berea for R25 for a pack of 2. You can see more about Col Tempo in our Directory

7. GRACIE ABRAMS

‘I love you, I’m sorry’ has been this months anthem - and I don’t even have anyone to relate it to?! I just love everything about it - in fact, I’m listening to it as I write this. There’s nothing better than blasting Gracie Abrams in the car and scream singing to her songs. My favourites from her ‘The Secret of Us’ album, besides ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry” are “Risk”, “Us feat, Taylor Swift” and ‘I knew it, I knew You”. I think she’s an amazing artist and I can’t wait to see what she brings us in the future.

8. WEARING MY HAIR IN A BUN

Okay, hair care is always on my monthly goals list and I never take it seriously - October I will take it seriously!! And as someone who is running a lot and working out, my hair gets sweaty very fast and I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little bit lazy when it comes to styling my hair, so buns have been my best friend during September. I think they’re a little but more chic than a pony tail sometimes, and both tight, sleek back buns and messy buns always look cute! That being said, my hair needs a lot of TLC and I’m planning on working on that.
